Blue Bombers capture fourth volleyball title in a row
PICKETTS CORNERS — Lake Placid did not turn in its best performance of the season Saturday, but it was still good enough to earn the school its fourth straight Class D crown with a 3-1 victory over Northern Adirondack in the final match of the day at Saranac Central.
The Blue Bombers got off to a good start by winning the first game 25-12, but the winless Bobcats rallied to take the second game by a 25-13 score. Lake Placid, however, responded with 25-16 and 25-18 victories to pull away for the win.
Graci Daby finished with a match-high 16 points for the Blue Bombers, and Victoria O’Leary added 10 points, and also chipped in a match-high eight kills. Keely Rose added eight points for the Blue Bombers, and Laurel Miller paced the team in assists with nine.
“In our first game, Graci and Laurel kept us in there with their serving,” Lake Placid coach Donna Moody said. “In the second game couldn’t get it together, but it was to great to see our girls come back nicely and win the third and fourth.
“We graduated a lot of players from last year, and only had three kids on this team who have experienced playing in a championship match,” Moody added. “I think early on it was just a combination of nerves and inexperience. I’m happy for our girls. They worked really hard. Their championship is well deserved.”
The Blue Bombers will now play on Wednesday at the Olympic Training Center against Section X, Class D champion Chateaugay starting at 4 p.m.
