The Lake Placid 16-and-under softball team turned in a 5-0 record to win the Vermont Rockets Invitational Tournament in Georgia, Vermont on Aug. 2-3.
The Bombers locked up the championship with a 5-1 victory over the Vermont Cougars. Lake Placid pitcher Carissa Kennedy kept the Cougars' bats at bay early in the game, paving the way for the win.
Lauren Stanley and Melanie Adams connected for back-to-back singles in the third inning and moved to second and third on a throwing error. Mia Kennedy brought in Stanley with a single and Lizzie Bimonte pushed Adams across for a 2-0 advantage.

The Bombers added another run in the fourth when Alexa Prue walked and moved to second on a Myranda Miller ground out. Stanley then singled to bring in Prue and Lake Placid led 3-0.
The Cougars put a run on the board in the fifth, but Lake Placid responded with two insurance runs in the sixth when Stanley tripled to bring in Casey Frederick then scored herself to set the final margin.
In the semifinal game, Mia Kennedy earned the victory from the pitcher's circle after striking out two and allowing three hits and six walks. Carissa Kennedy had a triple and a single and Stanley added a single and double to lead the Bombers' offense in the 12-2 win.
Lake Placid opened the tournament with a 12-0 win over Vermont Thunder. Carissa Kennedy struck out seven, walked none and gave up just one hit to pick up the win. She helped her own cause with a 4-for-4 hitting performance. Mia Kennedy and Bimonte each had two hits.
In the second game, Prue earned the pitching win, scattering five hits and striking out nine. Bimonte tripled and singled in the game.
The Bombers won their third game 16-0 over Brattleboro Heat. Alyssa Salls was named the player of the game after turning in a solid defensive effort from her third base position. Myranda Miler was the winning pitcher with three strikeouts and two hits against. Bimonte had two doubles, Miller had one and Morgan Meyer and Casey Frederick each had two singles apiece.
The tournament ended the season for the 16U Bombers who started the summer 0-4 before going 9-1 to finish with a 9-5 record. They will be holding fall tryouts in September for the 2015 teams. Contact Greg Hayes at firstname.lastname@example.org or 518-524-5775 for more information.
