Passing is something all drivers have to do on occasion. When we are driving on a four-lane road, it can be fairly easy and not particularly stressful. But passing on a two-lane road, which is mostly what we have in the North Country, can be fraught with danger and create a tremendous anxiety in the driver. As the driver trying to pass, you must make several decisions in a dynamic situation. Is there time to get around the car in front of you? Is there oncoming traffic? How fast is the oncoming car approaching? How fast will you have to drive to get around the car in front of you? All of these calculations have to be made simultaneously and quickly.
