To the editor:
On behalf of the Saranac Lake SkatePark Committee and all of the many skateboarders of the area, we would like to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to the Saranac Lake village board for their generous support of the skateboard facility.
As reported in the Adirondack Daily Enterprise, on Monday evening the board voted to provide construction support for the skatepark that the village has valued at about $100,000.
In light of the adjoining article about the adoption of a lean village budget for this year, it should be pointed out that the vast majority of this support is comprised of village labor, use of village equipment, and the donation of gravel from the sand pit. There will be minimal extra "out of pocket" expense to the village.
The SkatePark Committee has about $125,000 (cash, pledges and expected revenue). We still need to raise another $45,000 and receive $18,000 of in-kind donations of construction materials and equipment to be able to complete the project. Generous donations from individuals and families, combined with grants from private foundations will pay for over two-thirds of the skatepark. Thank you.
Our goal is to break ground in July and have the grand opening by the end of October. Please help us to make this 20-year-old dream come true. You can donate on-line at slskatepark.com or by checks payable to Saranac Lake Rotary Foundation mailed to Saranac Lake SkatePark, P.O. Box 995, Saranac Lake, NY 12983.
Kids originally asked for a skatepark 20 years ago. Please help their children get their skatepark.
And again, thank you to the village of Saranac Lake, truly the Capital of the Adirondacks.
