SARANAC LAKE - American Village Dry Cleaners & Laundromat has closed, leaving the village with one laundromat and no dry cleaning.
The remaining laundromat is the Warehouse Coinwash & Carwash on 78 Woodruff St.
"We're the last one standing," Warehouse Coinwash owner Bill Rich said this morning.
When the American Village laundromat at 28 Bloomingdale Ave. was closed late last week, these signs were hung in the
wondows, thanking customers for 28 years of patronage, suggesting they use the Warehouse Coinwash on Woodruff Street (now the village’s only laundromat) and saying a new business is coming to the space soon.

Dale Davis of Malone, the owner of American Village, sold the property at 28 Bloomingdale Ave. last week. The building had been up for sale for nearly a year.
"There wasn't much time for me to alert customers," Davis said.
The sale happened quickly. Davis said she is not sure what the new owners will do with the property, but she said it will not remain a laundromat.
"It wasn't my intention for the community to lose a laundromat," she said. "I want to thank all of our customers."
The business was founded in 1986 by Davis and her father. Davis also owns another American Village laundromat in Malone that will stay open, she said.
The reason for closing the Saranac Lake laundromat was the economy.
"It's been tough economic times," she said. "We had to let it go."
American Village didn't do dry cleaning on site but was a drop-off point, sending clothes to Malone to be dry cleaned there.
The nearest place now for Saranac Lakers to take their dry cleaning is Gold Medal Laundromat and Dry Cleaning in Lake Placid's Cold Brook Plaza, next to the Hannaford supermarket. A truck comes there on Tuesdays and Thursdays to take clothes to Warrensburg to be dry cleaned.
