Police arrest two on drug charges after fight

SARANAC LAKE - Village police arrested two men on drug charges early this morning after responding to a late-night fight in the middle of the street.

Cory Callaghan, 21, and Michael J. Gonyea, 42, both of Saranac Lake, were arrested at 12:58 a.m. Police said the two men were fighting in Bloomingdale Avenue.

Gonyea was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controled substance, a class A misdemeanor, and two violations: possession of a controlled substance not in its original container and disorderly conduct.

Police said Gonyea was found in possession of 15 full strips and several partial strips of Suboxone, a prescription medication used for treatment of opioid dependence.

He was processed, arraigned in village court and remanded to the Franklin County Jail in Malone on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.

Callaghan was allegedly found in possession of a small amount of marijuana. He was charged with two violations: unlawful possession of marijuana and disorderly conduct.

Callaghan was processed and released on an appearance ticket for village court.
