LAKE PLACID - Lake Placid High School students will take to the stage this weekend to perform "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," adapted by J. Michael Straczynski.

Senior Tony Miller, director of the play, was busy preparing the actors at Tuesday night's dress rehearsal. Miller said he chose "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" because he has always wanted to direct a classic fairy tale.

"Originally, I wanted to do 'Alice in Wonderland' or one of the classic fairy tales," Miller said. "So this was a good number. I had done it before when I was younger."

The play is a senior project for Miller and is the second play he has directed this year. In September he directed the school's annual murder mystery.

It is the fifth play for ninth-grader Laine Ridenour, who is set to fill the leading role, Snow White. Senior Trevor Knapp will be the prince and senior Veronica Zayonc the evil queen.

Ridenour said learning the play so far has been a lot of fun and she felt very lucky to get the part.

Cheryl Megliore, mother of ninth-grader Paige Megliore, was the student chaperone during the rehearsal.

"My daughter will play one of the witches, the apple-bearing witch," she said.

She said it has been a wonderful experience watching Miller direct.

"I've known Tony since he was in nursery school," she said. "He's always been in the arts."

She added that the play is really coming together.

"Snow White" will run 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday in the high school auditorium.

Admission to the play is free, but donations will be collected for the school Drama Club as well as Miller's AP environmental project.
