RAY BROOK - Police, state forest rangers and volunteers spent the weekend combing the woods for a missing Australian soldier but found new new clues to his disappearance.

"There was nothing of significance that was found during the ground search, but the ground search continues," village Police Chief Bruce Nason said this morning. "We continue to get phone calls from the public of potential sightings that we're following up on."

It's been nearly two weeks since Paul McKay, 31, was last seen walking east on the railroad tracks near the federal prison in Ray Brook, carrying a large backpack and wearing a winter jacket and snowpants. That was Dec. 31, two days after McKay flew to the U.S. from Australia. He was reported missing by his father on Jan. 3 after his son sent him an email saying he was leaving him all his possessions. His family hadn't known he had traveled to the U.S.

Paul McKay, a member of the Australian Army, was last seen in Ray Brook on Dec. 31. This is one of several photos posted on his Facebook page four days before he
disappeared.

Teams of volunteers, overseen by state forest rangers, were called in this weekend to help conduct a grid search of the area. Nason said the search is focused on the Scarface Mountain area.

The effort was cut short on Saturday due to heavy rain but resumed Sunday. The search will continue today, Nason said.

Anyone with information about McKay's whereabouts is asked to call village police at 518-891-4428 or DEC dispatch at 518-897-1300.
