HOCHFILZEN, Austria - Tim Burke of Paul Smiths finished 21st with two misses and a time of 34:15 as the top American in Sunday's World Cup biathlon 12.5-kilometer pursuit race.
Lowell Bailey of Lake Placid placed 30th in 34:35 with four penalties.
"I feel like my performance today was better than the actual result," Burke said. "With only two penalties, I expected to move up further today, but I guess everyone was performing well. I think my ski shape is getting better with every race, so I am looking forward to next week's races in France."
Martin Fourcade of France claimed World Cup win No. 27, crossing the finish at 32:43.3 with one penalty. Emil Hegle Svendsen of Norway finished second in 32:51 (one miss) and Tarjei Boe of Norway was third in 33:00.9 (two misses).
Team USA heads to Annecy-Le Grand Bornand in France for the third World Cup of the season, opening Thursday with the women's relay.
