International bobsled, skeleton racing underway

The bobsled and skeleton international competitive season is in full swing with a series of races slated around the world this week.

The World Cup prepares to kick off in Calgary, Alberta with the Winsport World Push Challenge in the Ice House on Saturday. Push athletes will battle one another for the coveted title of world push champion.

The North American Cup tour continues on the 2002 Olympic track in Park City, Utah with a three-race series, while the European Cup will begin its circuit on the challenging course in Altenberg, Germany.

Annie O'Shea of Port Jefferson Station, Veronica Day, Gracie Clapp, Megan Henry and Kellie Delka are scheduled to compete in Park City's women's skeleton North American Cup races. Men's skeleton competitors include Greg West, Austin McCrary, Trent Kraychir and Mike Rogals.

Codie Bascue of Whitehall, Jake Peterson, Jay Noller and Colin Coughlin will pilot the men's bobsleds entered into the North American Cup races. Elana Meyers, Jazmine Fenlator and Jamie Greubel wrapped up training on the 2014 Olympic track in Sochi, Russia and will start their competitive season with the North American Cup series in Park City. Bree Schaaf will look to repeat her medal performance from last week as she continues her season.

Kevin McGlade, Alex Ivanov, Lauri Bausch and Meghan Sullivan will represent the U.S. in the skeleton races on the European Cup tour. The U.S. will not enter any sleds in the bobsled races.
