Tas Cru performing Saturday at Delta Blue

November 7, 2013
Adirondack Daily Enterprise

LAKE PLACID - Blues Hall of Fame's Tas Cru will appear at Delta Blue from 9 p.m. to midnight Saturday.

Cru's songs are blues poetry - telltale life lessons crafted with rare verbal flair and delivered with a power and passion.

Cru grew up in a musical and generally "unquirky" family (except for him). Unlike his brother and sisters, he did not pursue a formal musical education, instead, exploring and developing his talent with a rougher crowd of self-taught musicians.

Cru's first foray into the blues came when he joined a band formed by Delray Streeter, a bluesman of unlimited bravado and attitude, who claimed a rich blues heritage from his upbringing in El Dorado, Ark. Through Streeter, Cru developed an affinity for the older and much rawer country blues. His schooling in country blues later served as a counterpoint to the rock-blues influences he idolized in so many other young guitar players of his time.

Based out of upstate New York, Cru performs in a variety of formats ranging from solo-acoustic to a seven-piece backing band. Recent Blues Festival performances of note include Billtown, Chenango, Kalamazoo, Chautauqua Hills (Kansas), Bluesberry Festival (Lafayette, La.), Niagara Falls, and the New York State Blues Fest (Syracuse). Cru has performed and instructed in numerous Blues Education programs and workshops in schools and communities around the country.

Cru's discography includes four albums of original songs: "Biscuit" (2006), "gravi-Tas" (2008), "Grizzle n' Bone" (2009, and "JusDesserts" (2010). His new album "Tired of Bluesmen Cryin' "is still enjoying airplay worldwide.

The album made the Roots Music Report's Top 50 Blues albums for 10 consecutive weeks and the Top 25 on the prestigious Living Blues Cart (Dec. 2012).

In addition to these albums, is Cru's 2009 recording, "Even Bugs Sing the Blues" an album of original blues music for kids to help inspire a new generation of blues fans and musicians.
