PLATTSBURGH - The Lake Placid girls soccer season came to an end in heartbreaking fashion Friday in the Section VII, Class C semifinals as Northern Adirondack escaped with the shootout victory.

The teams ended in a 1-1 draw after 80 minutes of regulation time, then battled through four overtime periods without a goal to send the game into a penalty kick shootout. The Blue Bombers connected on their first two kicks, but missed the next two while Northern Adirondack converted all four of its chances.

The Bobcats advanced to the championship game where they will face Seton Catholic, a 1-0 overtime winner over Ticonderoga.

Lake Placid answered in the second half when Liza Marinis navigated her way through the NAC defense for an unassisted goal at the 19:18 mark of the second half.

The teams played evenly from there, with neither able to muster a goal. Northern Adirondack had seven corner kicks during that time and outshot Lake Placid 14-4.

Lake Placid goalkeeper Laura Stanton stopped eight shots throughout the game.
