SARANAC LAKE - Village police are asking for the public's help in identifying a woman who allegedly shoplifted a dress from a downtown clothing shop.

Police say the theft took place at Pink on Broadway around 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 10. Chief Bruce Nason said a woman was caught on the store's surveillance camera stealing a $148 black velvet Graham Spencer dress.

"She removed the tag from the dress, took the dress off the hanger, folded it up and put it in her bag," Nason said.

The store clerk was working with another customer at the time, Nason said.

Police have provided the Enterprise with a pair of surveillance camera images that show the woman suspected of stealing the dress. The images were also posted to the police department's Facebook page.

Nason said his department has received a few names from people as to who the woman might be and is following up on those leads.

Anyone who recognizes the person in the images, or who may have more information about the alleged larceny, is asked to call village police at 518-891-4422.
