ROOST to highlight Saranac Lake marketing

SARANAC LAKE - Representatives of the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism will outline their efforts to market the Saranac Lake area at a public meeting Wednesday night.

The presentation is set for 6:30 p.m. in the Harrietstown Town Hall, 39 Main St., Saranac Lake. It's described in a press release as a cooperative effort by the village of Saranac Lake, the town of Harrietstown and the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.

In May of this year, ROOST entered into agreements with Franklin County, the town, the village and the chamber, with the support of the town of North Elba and Essex County, to develop a proactive destination marketing plan for Saranac Lake. On Wednesday, ROOST will present an educational overview of current destination marketing trends and an update on the regional destination marketing efforts undertaken to date. A full analysis will be conducted at the close of the contract year in the spring of 2014.

Chamber Executive Director Katy Van Anden encouraged business owners to attend the presentation.

"The work being done by ROOST to make the Saranac Lake Area a tourism destination is critical to every business in the area and to every local event that counts on visitors to make a difference in their bottom line," Van Anden said in a press release.

Saranac Lake Trustee Paul Van Cott said continuing to support ROOST will be "critical investment" over the next few years, given the two hotel projects in the community: Roedel Companies' plan to buy and restore the Hotel Saranac and Malone developer Chris LaBarge's proposed 90-room upscale hotel on Lake Flower.
