Red Storm girls soccer opens with loss

CHAMPLAIN - The Northeastern Clinton girls soccer team scored three unanswered goals in the first half to take control of what became a 4-1 victory over Saranac Lake on Thursday.

The Red Storm scored their lone goal in the 38th minute of the first half when Logan Hochwald broke through with an unassisted tally.

Allycia Woodruff and Katy Hunt combined to make nine saves in goal for Saranac Lake in its opening game. NCCS outshot the Red Storm 18-7.

Michaela McDonough, Shaylyn Rowe and Taylor Rabideau each scored in the first half for the Cougars, while Peyton Sample connected in the second half.

Saranac Lake returns to action Tuesday with its home opener against Beekmantown at Schroeter's Field at 4:30 p.m.

TICONDEROGA - The Saranac Lake boys and girls cross country teams opened the season Thursday with a three-way meet against Ticonderoga.

Nina Armstrong and Gabby Armstrong took the top two spots in the girls race, while Johanna Mohrs of Saranac Lake was third. Nina Armstrong completed the course in 21 minutes, 46 seconds, followed by her sister in 23:01. Mohrs clocked a 24:29.

Ticonderoga took the top three places in the boys race, led by Tyler Belden who finished in 19:07.

Karl Schultz of Lake Placid was fourth with a time of 20:06.
