Golfing for Literacy Volunteers

August 30, 2013
Adirondack Daily Enterprise

To the editor:

On Sunday, July 21, Literacy Volunteers held its "READ" the Green Golf Tournament at the Tupper Lake Golf Club. Arthur Rocque's team from Saranac Lake took first place, followed by Mark Jessie's team from Tupper Lake. Deborah Byrd's team from Tupper Lake came in third.

Literacy Volunteers would like to thank the following local businesses that each sponsored a hole in the amount of $100: Boushie & Associates; Cottage Corps, Mirror Lake Inn; Desperados; Delta Kappa Gamma, Beta Mu Chapter; Engel & Voelkers Real Estate; Gordon Pratt Agency; Hyde Fuel Company; Pat Ida; Industrial Press; Lockrows; Malone Office Products; Ticonderoga Federal Credit Union; Ticonderoga International Paper Mill; Tri-Lakes Federal Credit Union; Raquette River Brewing; Shaheen's Super Market; Upstate Agency Insurance; and Wine & Spirit Shoppe.

We would also like to thank those who donated prizes for first, second, third, longest drive and a door prize. They are Craig Wood Golf Course, Crowne Plaza Resort & Club, Malone Golf Course, Saranac Inn Golf Course, Whiteface Club & Resort and Outpost Wine & Spirits.

Last but not least, we would like to thank Clarence Bell, golf pro at Tupper Lake Golf Club, and The 19th Hole Restaurant for helping us put together the tournament. This fundraiser was successful, and all proceeds will benefit Literacy Volunteers' Adult Literacy programs. We look forward to next year's event!

Thank you,

Maria Burke and the Fundraising Committee
