Village seeks delinquent water, sewer payments

SARANAC LAKE - The village plans to turn off water and sewer service to a group of a dozen customers unless they pay their delinquent utility bills.

Village Manager John Sweeney said Monday that collection letters will be sent to customers that have fallen behind. The same customers have already received multiple letters via certified mail asking them to pay their bills, he said.

"Ultimately, if they do not pay the bills we will be turning them off," Sweeney said.

Village Treasurer Paul Ellis said the roughly 12 customers owe the village a combined $40,000 in late water and sewer payments, including one who owes $15,000. He said all those who haven't paid are located outside the village and outside of an approved water and sewer district.
