Thomas W. Smith, 61, passed away unexpectedly while visiting his sister in New Jersey on Monday, June 24, 2013.
Tom was a lifelong resident of Tupper Lake. He enjoyed military history, NASCAR, collecting Dale Earnhardt memorabilia, motorcycles and traveling.
Tom loved being able to offer a helping hand to anyone in need in any way that he was able. His volunteer work with the Goff-Nelson Memorial Library and the wonderful employees there especially brought him great joy.
Tom had a deep and heartfelt compassion for all animals throughout his life, caring for his own pets and, at times, other cats or even small wild animals in need, with his gentle nature.
Tom was predeceased by his father, Edward A. Smith (passed Feb. 15, 1976) and by his mother, Doris Smith (passed April 30, 2008). He leaves behind his grieving siblings: Edward Smith of Syracuse, Nancy (Robert) Ward of Sennett, Susan Smith of Hopatcong N.J., Carole Smith of Lake Placid, Edward Smith Jr of Honolulu Hawaii, his beloved companion Holly Bieker, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Those left behind are finding solace from knowing that Tom is again in the safe and loving ams of his parents whom he never stopped missing so very deeply. In our sorrow, we know Tom is at peace and watching over us. His death will not be goodbye for us. We can only say goodnight for now. Funeral services were held Friday, June 28th at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made to the Goff-Nelson Memorial Library or to the Tri-Lakes Humane Society.
