Rain-swollen Mohawk River kills woman, 87

FORT PLAIN (AP) - Montgomery County officials say the body of 87-year-old Ethel Healey has been recovered from the Mohawk River several miles from the village where her mobile home was swept away in floodwaters last week.

Healey's body was found Monday evening in storm debris at Canajoharie, about three miles south of the village of Fort Plain, where the rain-swollen Otsquago Creek caused flash flooding on Friday.

The National Weather Service had flood warnings in effect this morning along the Mohawk River at Utica and Little Falls and along Wappingers Creek in Dutchess County, where minor flooding was occurring. Flood warnings also were posted for the Susquehanna and Chenango rivers in Broome and Chenango counties.

The weather service said there could be more flash flooding as scattered showers continue on today.
