CHAMPLAIN (AP) - State police say they have charged an 85-year-old man with being drunk behind the wheel when he fatally struck a mother of three as she jogged on a northern New York road.
Troopers say the charges against Ronald Trombly of Mooers include vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and driving while intoxicated.
Police say 28-year-old Ashley Poissant of Champlain was with three other people as they ran on the shoulder of a road in her hometown on the night of May 20. Troopers say Trombly saw the joggers and tried to drive around them, but struck Poissant. She died several hours later at a hospital in Vermont.
Trombly was released on his own recognizance following his arraignment. Trombly's lawyer, Stephen Johnston of Plattsburgh, declined to comment.
