Stephen J. Boldis died Thursday, May 30, 2013.

Born in Buffalo, Stephen was a lifetime resident of Western New York, where he worked as a stationary engineer at Erie Community College North prior to retirement. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and camping with his family.

Steve was a member of the Niagara River Station Fishing Club and was active in RAWNY as a ham radio operator.

In 2008, Steve moved to Saranac Village at Will Rogers, where he enjoyed the staff and meeting his neighbors for coffee and social events.

A family trip to Budapest, Hungary, and Feketic, Serbia, was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream he had to see the old country and explore his family's roots.

Since 2009, Stephen was a resident at the Uihlein Living Center in Lake Placid, where he had many friends and supportive caregivers, including High Peaks Hospice and Mercy Care volunteers. Noted for his humor, radiant smile and love of beagles, Steve was devoted to his family and proud of his Hungarian heritage.

He was the beloved husband of the late Emma S. (nee Kovach) Boldis, loving father of Karen A. Boldis of Vermontville, and Kathleen S. (Robert) Shaughnessy of Denver, Colo.; dear brother of the late Mary (late Rudolf) Aranyosi and the late Margaret Boldis; and cherished grandfather of Katie, Robert and Patrick Shaughnessy.

A funeral service was held on June 7 at Beach Tuyn Funeral Home Inc., 5541 Main St., Williamsville, with interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Tonawanda.
