SARANAC LAKE - Junior Dustin Fischer of Saranac Lake High School turned in the top results of the nine members of the Section VII team that competed Sunday and Monday at the New York State Public High School Golf Championships at Cornell University.
Fischer fired identical rounds of 81 on the Robert Trent Jones layout to finish in a tie for 36th place. His 162 total was matched by five other golfers from across the state.
Fischer was one of three Saranac?Lake golfers who qualified for the tournament. Ethan Sawyer, a Red Storm sophomore, struggled on the opening day with a 94, but he rebounded with an 80 in the final round to finish 67th overall with a 174 total. He was just two shots back of Northeastern Clinton's Nolan Reid, who won the Section VII individual title at Saranac Inn last month.

Teddy Yanchitis, a senior, was the third Saranac Lake golfer at the tournament. He carded rounds of 101 and 92.
Tupper Lake freshman Riley Amell posted rounds of 69 and 88 to finish with a 184 total to finish in a tie with Lake Placid's Kiefer Casler, who had two rounds of 92.
Senior Davis Jensen of Section II's Shaker High School won the individual state title at this year's championships. He had rounds of 74 and 73 and a 147 total to win by three strokes over runner-up Alec Bard of New Hartford High School.
