PLATTSBURGH - The Lake Placid boys tennis team claimed a 3-2 victory over host Seton Catholic Thursday in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference action.
The Blue Bombers got singles wins from Keegan Barney and Justin Stosiek and got the deciding point from its second doubles team of Haile Thompson and Michael Morrison in a three-set contest.
Barney earned the only straight-set win of the match, topping the Knights' Keagan Briggs 6-3, 6-0 in No. 2 singles. Stosiek won a battle at third singles, defeating Shun Kato 6-4, 3-6 and 7-5.
Thompson and Morrison came on strong in the final set to earn their doubles victory, defeating Chris Tang and Kamil Ali 6-4, 6-7 (3-7) and 6-2.
Steven Jelinek and the first doubles team of David Knapic and Nik Kobe suffered the two setbacks for the Blue Bombers.
Playing in the top singles position, Jelinek was tied at one set each with Seton's Danh Phan, but forfeited in the third and deciding set. Jelinek jumped out to a 1-0 edge by winning the opening set, fell 3-6 in the second set and forfeited in the third while trailing 0-3.
Knapic and Kobe were in a real battle that included a pair of tiebreakers before they dropped a three-set decision to James Mulligan and Noah Racette in the top doubles pairing. The score was 6-7 (3-7), 6-2 and 6-7 (10-12).
The Lake Placid girls also won their match against Seton Catholic by a 5-0 score.
The O'Leary sisters - Georgia, Joan and Victoria - picked up singles wins for the Blue Bombers and Brenna Garrett and Liza Marinis won at No. 1 doubles. Kayla Hudson and Grace McGrew won by forfeit at No. 2 doubles for Lake Placid.
