CLINTONVILLE - The Lake Placid baseball team broke out of its recent slump Thursday with a 4-1 victory over Champlain Valley Athletic Conference, Division II opponent AuSable Valley.
Ryan Meyer was the star of the day for the Blue Bombers, who racked up 13 hits as a team. Meyer, a senior, struck out 11, gave up five hits and didn't walk a batter for the complete-game victory on the mound. He helped his own cause at the plate with a single, a double and a run scored.
Lead-off batter Shane McNierney reached base four times for Lake Placid and scored a run. Alex Brandes did his part with a single, a double, two RBI and a run scored. Kamm Cassidy went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Conor Preston, Eddie Kane and Noah Mohr each chipped in singles.

With the win, Lake Placid ended a five-game losing streak and improved to 5-7 in CVAC games. The Blue Bombers are second in their division, trailing only Ticonderoga (6-5). AuSable Valley is in third place with a 4-9 record.
Lake Placid scored single runs in the second, third, fourth and sixth innings. The Patriots scored their lone run in the bottom of the sixth.
Nick McDonald struck out five and walked five over seven innings to take the loss for AuSable Valley.
Saranac 3, Saranac Lake 1
SARANAC LAKE - The Saranac baseball team posted two runs in the top of the seventh inning Thursday to secure a 3-1 Champlain Valley Athletic Conference victory over Saranac Lake.
The Chiefs (9-5) outhit Saranac Lake 9-4, with Austin Medeiros earning the complete-game victory on the mound. Medeiros struck out seven and didn't walk a batter.
Jonathan McCabe had two of the Red Storm's four hits. Trent Fitzgerald and Grant Strack turned in solid performances on the mound, but had to settle for the loss.
Andrew Tedford and Kyle Erickson each had a single and double for the Chiefs.
Saranac Lake is 5-8 in league games.
Saranac Lake 7, Northern Adirondack 6
SARANAC LAKE - The Saranac Lake softball team took a while to get going Thursday, but came through when it mattered most for a 7-6 come-from-behind victory over Northern Adirondack.
The Red Storm trailed 6-2 going into the bottom of the seventh, then scored five in the final frame to walk off with the win. Jordy McDougall had four RBI and two singles, Megan Kilroy collected three singles and Brittany Woodruff singled twice and had an RBI to lead Saranac Lake.
Brittany Tschirhart earned the pitching win after striking out six over seven innings of work.
Northern Adirondack scored three runs in the top of the seventh to take a four-run lead into the Red Storm's final at-bat.
Saranac Lake held onto its second-place Champlain Valley Athletic Conference, Division I standing with the victory and improved to 8-4. Northern Adirondack, a Division II team, fell to 2-11.

SARANAC LAKE - The Saranac Lake seniors came through in their final home dual meet of the season Thursday as all eight were winners against Seton Catholic.
Seniors Vanessa Salamy won three events, while Blair Moody and Annie Frenette each won twice. Julia Murray won the high jump with a 4-footer.
Salamy won the 100 hurdles in 16.6 seconds, the 200 in 28.6 and was part of the winning 1,600 relay that stopped the clock in 4:26.6. Moody won the long jump with a 13-11 and the triple jump with a 29-3. Frenette was also part of the 1,600 relay and won individually in the 400 (1:05.4).
Alex Beaudoin (100, 200) and Craig Leahy (110 hurdles, 400 hurdles) were two-time winners for the boys, while Kyle McGrain (shot put) and Kevin Morgan (400) each won one event.

SARANAC - The Lake Placid girls track and field team swept the relays Thursday, but it wasn't enough to overtake Saranac in the team scoring as the Chiefs won both the girls and boys dual scoring.
Rachael Ashley, Lissy Ashley, Nina Armstrong and Gabby Armstrong teamed up to win the 3,200-meter relay in 10:43.3. Elena Bushey, Jillian Goulette, Sage Miller and Teresa Smith won the 400 relay in 1:01.3. The Ashley sisters, Gabby Armstrong and Kendra Manning topped Saranac in the 1,600 relay with a 4:34.
Nina Armstrong was the winner in the 1,500 (5:23.5) and the 3,000 (12:34.0). Manning won the 100 in 13.6.
