MALONE - Franklin County legislators appointed nine people to a new Tourism Advisory Committee.

The TAC is meant to create a plan for tourism marketing and spending in the county.

The appointees are:

Lesley Lyon, who owns Sunday Pond Bed and Breakfast in Lake Clear, will represent a category that includes tourist homes, inns, cottages, vacation rentals and bed and breakfasts.

Julian Hutton, manager of the Point resort on Upper Saranac Lake, is one of two people who will represent the accommodations industry.

Chris LaBarge, who runs Malone's Holiday Inn Express, is the other.

Derek Sprague, who runs the Malone Golf Club, will represent the restaurant/retail sector.

Bruce Monette, also a partner in the Holiday Inn Express and co-owner of Titus Mountain, will represent the recreation sector.

Gil Paddock, who runs Deer River Campsite in Malone, will represent the camping industry.

Stephanie Ratcliffe, executive director of The Wild Center natural history museum in Tupper Lake, will represent the county's attractions.

Tupper Lake Events Coordinator Michelle Clement will be one of two at-large representatives.

The other will be a still-to-be-named person who will represent Akwasasne Mohawk casino interests.

The members will serve either one-, two- or three-year terms, in order to stagger the terms. Legislators have not yet determined which member will get which term length, but county Attorney Jonathan Miller suggested Thursday they use a completely random method like drawing straws.

Once the first terms are served, every representative will serve a three-year term.

Legislators created the committee at a March meeting. According to the law, at least one representative has to be from the Saranac Lake area and one must be from the Tupper Lake area.
