To the editor:
You may have heard that the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce approved a motion to enter into a three-year destination marketing contract with the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism at their Board of Directors meeting on March 26.
What's this mean for chamber members?
The chamber will continue to provide traditional business services for our members; however, it has become increasingly clear that our membership and community will better benefit by taking advantage of ROOST's resources to promote Saranac Lake as a tourism destination. The agreement represents an expansion of the existing partnership between the chamber and ROOST, providing continued visitor service support and increased destination marketing services specifically for Saranac Lake.
Our chamber has had a working partnership with ROOST for many years. ROOST has provided visitor service support in the form of personnel and equipment, as well as including Saranac Lake in destination marketing efforts. This agreement will allow ROOST to implement a focused destination marketing strategy specifically for Saranac Lake, as it does for the other regional destinations it represents.
The Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce will continue to provide visitor and local business information at the Visitor Center/chamber office, create and distribute the printed visitors guide, attend travel shows, and host and assist with local events, including new ones we enthusiastically have taken on this year such as the Daffest 5k, the Hanmer and Chefs and Farmers. We will continue to do the work required on a local level to support Saranac Lake destination, growth and development.
We are committed to business support for our members, including our educational workshops, now scheduled through December 2013. Networking opportunities, mixers and dinners, health insurance, electricity discounts and event insurance will all continue. Executive director reports will be sent to you, as will our weekly newsletter, the "Chamber Chalkboard." Our chamber looks forward to providing you services and continuing to represent the Saranac Lake business community while prioritizing partnerships with regional chambers, municipalities and legislature throughout our region, giving local business a voice in the North Country and beyond.
In concert with our agreement, ROOST has also entered into agreements to provide destination marketing support to the Saranac Lake area with Franklin County, the town of North Elba, the town of Harrietstown, Essex County and the village of Saranac Lake. We will continue to actively participate with the listed partners as part of the Saranac Lake Area Tourism Council, a dynamic group of community thinkers. SLACC is enthusiastic about this exciting and new endeavor.
