MASSENA - L. Fern Zeh, 85, of Sherwood Drive, Massena, died Thursday evening, March 7, 2013, at the Massena Memorial Hospital after a long, courageous
battle with cancer.
Fern is survived by her husband of nearly 65 years, Charles; son Gregory and daughter-in-law Imelda of Saranac Lake; a daughter Candace and son-in-law Roy Mittiga Jr. of Massena; and two grandchildren: Joe Mittiga of Massena and Jessica Zeh of Rochester.
Fern was born in Mt. Pleasant, Pa., on March 11, 1927, the daughter of Glenn and Clara (Holdsworth) Miller. Fern married Charles Zeh on June 11, 1948, in Mt. Vernon, Pa. Fern and her husband moved to the Massena in 1958 during the Seaway and Reynolds Metals construction completion project. Fern at one time worked as an operator for Bell Telephone Company. She was a stay-at-home mom raising her family; she enjoyed cards and was an avid bridge player.
Fern and her husband were members of the Emmanuel Congregational Church. As per her wishes, services will be private with the Rev. Judith VanKennen and burial will be in the spring at Pine Grove Cemetery II, Norfolk.
