Tim Burke of Paul Smiths and Lowell Bailey of Lake Placid each had strong finishes Friday in the World Cup 10-kilometer biathlon sprint in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia

Burke placed ninth with a time of 25 minutes, 26.3 seconds with one penalty and Bailey shot cleanly at both ranges and finished 11th in a time of 25:28.3.

"Today was a great day for our team and we are thrilled to move back into 10th place for the Nations Cup rankings," Burke said. "This guarantees us five start spots for next season. Personally, I am happy with my ninth place. Most importantly, I am only about 20 seconds out of second place for (Saturday's) pursuit, so it should be a very exciting race."
