Ice fishing finale

March 8, 2013
Adirondack Daily Enterprise
An ice fisherman goes to his shanty on Lower St. Regis Lake in Paul Smiths Saturday during the annual Colby Classic derby, based in Saranac Lake. The state Department of Environmental Conservation reminds ice fishermen that shanties are to be removed from the ice by March 15, a week from today. Shanties that fall partially through the ice become hard to remove and create hazards to snowmobiles and other motorized vehicles on the ice. Shanties that remain after ice-out (when the ice has melted away) become navigation hazards for boats. Owners who fail to remove their shanties by March 15 may be ticketed and face a maximum possible fine of $100.
