LAKE PLACID - One year after Urgo Hotels assumed its management, Whiteface Lodge is celebrating several accolades, most notably a high inspection rating from an international hotel consortium.

The Leading Hotels of the World has awarded the luxury Adirondack resort an 87.8 percent inspection rating - the highest of its entire New York state portfolio, whose 23 members include a number of New York City's most renowned five-star hotels, according to a press release from the Whiteface Lodge. Leading Hotels also has qualified The Spa at Whiteface Lodge for certification as a Leading Spa, which could lead to additional exposure and recognition.

"Since opening in 2005, the entire Whiteface Lodge team has worked hard to create an Adirondack resort experience that is both authentic and luxurious," Whiteface Lodge General Manager Chris Pulito said in the release. "It is gratifying to see these efforts bear fruit and we are exceptionally proud to have our property compare so favorably to some of the state's - and the world's - most legendary hotels."

Whiteface Lodge has singled out two employees for 2012 Employee of the Year honors. Chef de Cuisine Greg Barth was selected for his strong leadership in the kitchen and a passion for his job. The second honoree, Patrick Campbell, has worked on the lodge's maintenance and security teams for the past two years, consistently arriving early and with a can-do attitude that influences his interactions with resort staff and guests alike, according to the release.

Whiteface Lodge also received several awards in 2012. The lodge was ranked first among ResortsandLodges.com's "Best Adirondacks Vacations" and fifth in Conde Nast Traveler's "Best Places to Ski and Stay in North America." It is a perennial recipient of Wine Spectator's Award of Excellence, and a AAA Four Diamond hotel for three years running. In 2013, the hotel was included in the U.S. News & World Report's "Best Hotels in U.S.A" and "Best Hotels in the Adirondacks" lists, ranking second; Conde Nast Traveler Gold List's "The World's Best Places to Stay"; Travel + Leisure's "500 Best Hotels in the World"; and Maverick Event's "Fab 5 Getaways."
