SARANAC - The Saranac Central boys basketball team burst out of the gate with a huge first quarter Wednesday night and held on to beat Saranac Lake 50-34 in a Section VII, Class B quarterfinal game.

The Chiefs used a pressure defense to take a 17-2 lead in the first and held steady the rest of the way. Saranac outscored the Red Storm 9-8 in the second and the final two quarter were even.

The win landed Saranac a spot in the Class B semifinals, where it will face Beekmantown on Saturday. The Red Storm finished the season with a 3-12 record.

Saranac Lake was again led by its big three - Kevin Morgan, Kellen Munn and Teddy Yanchitis. Morgan scored 15 points, Munn hit for 10 and Yanchitis chipped in six.

Jeremy Bullis recorded a double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds, while Michael Conway, John Maye and Nick Daniels each had eight for Saranac.
