Essex County drug sweep nets 6 arrests

A year-long investigation into the sale of narcotics - including cocaine, heroin and prescription drugs - has led to six arrests in Essex County.

The Essex County Drug Task Force announced the arrests in a press release Wednesday afternoon. The task force includes the Essex County District Attorney's Office, New York State Police, the Essex County Sheriff's Department, and the Ticonderoga and Lake Placid police departments.

A local woman, 51-year-old Kimberly A. Barney of Lake Placid, was among those taken into custody this week. She was charged with two counts each of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. She allegedly sold and possessed heroin, according to the release.

Others arrested include:

-Sheilana J. LaBatore, 23, of Crown Point, who was charged with one count each of fourth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance for allegedly selling and possessing hydrocodone.

-Adham M. Smith, 31, of Ticonderoga, who was charged with two counts each of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance for allegedly selling and possessing cocaine.

-Shannon K. Brown, 27, of Port Henry, who was charged with one count each of fourth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance for allegedly selling and possessing suboxone.

-Tyler E. Roushia, 25, of Plattsburgh, who was charged with one count each of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance for allegedly selling and possessing cocaine.

-Maura Michalak, 23, of Ticonderoga, who was charged with two counts each of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance for allegedly selling and possessing cocaine.

Police and prosecutors said the investigation is considered ongoing and additional arrests are pending. Arraignments will be held at a later date.
