Wild weather: High wind warnings for eastern NY

January 30, 2013
Associated Press

ALBANY (AP) - The National Weather Service says wind gusts could top 60 mph in parts of upstate New York as a cold front drives temperatures down from record winter highs and brings expected heavy rain in eastern areas and lake-effect snow to western parts of the state.

The weather service has issued a high wind warning for much of eastern New York from tonight through Thursday evening, with flood watches in effect from the Adirondacks south to the Hudson Valley and Catskills. Forecasters say winds could gust as high as 65 mph Thursday afternoon, when temperatures are expected to fall into the 20s from highs in the 50s this morning.

Temperatures climbed into the 60s in western New York today, with 65 in Buffalo and 61 in Rochester both breaking records.
