SARANAC LAKE - The Saranac Lake girls hockey team hung tough with unbeaten Beekmantown on Wednesday, but the Eagles proved to have too much firepower as they pulled away to a 4-1 victory over the Red Storm at the Civic Center.
After Beekmantown grabbed a 2-0 edge in the opening period, Ashley Roddy notched the only goal of the second stanza to cut Saranac Lake's deficit to 2-1. But the Eagles responded by burying two more pucks in the final period to round out the scoring.
Beekmantown dominated on offense, outshooting Saranac Lake 52-10. Katey Snyder kept the Red Storm in the game and finished with 48 saves in the nets. Kayleigh Bell earned the win between the pipes for the Eagles with nine saves.
Beekmantown got goals from four different players. Katie Matott opened the scoring 5:49 into the game, and Alexis Guay upped the Eagles lead to 2-0 on a goal with just five seconds left in the first period.
