Schroon Lake races past Lake Placid

LAKE PLACID - The Lake Placid boys basketball team couldn't bounce back from a 15-point deficit in the opening quarter in a 60-29 home loss to Schroon Lake on Wednesday.

The host Blue Bombers were outscored in all but the final quarter in the setback. Jesse Shaughnessy and Tanner Stone each netted a game-high 18 points to lead the Wildcats.

Jeff Armstrong added nine points for the Wildcats and teammate Caleb Maisonville chipped in seven.

Tarik Cecunjanin paced Lake Placid with 11 points and Alex Brandes added nine points for the Blue Bombers.



Peru 44, Saranac Lake 35

SARANAC LAKE - Peru's girls basketball team rode a 35-point effort from the Mazzella sisters to a 44-35 victory over Saranac Lake in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference action Wednesday on the Red Storm's court.

The two combined to score all but nine of Peru's points in the triumph.

Meghan Mazzella drained a game-high 19 points, including nine in the fourth quarter, and Mary Mazzella added 16 points.

Saranac Lake fell behind in the first half, going into the locker room at halftime trailing 24-11.

Nicole Viscardo, Megan Moody and Megan Kilroy each scored nine points to pace the Red Storm. Regan Kieffer also chipped in eight points in the loss.
