Unreasonable blocking of Susan Rice

November 21, 2012
Adirondack Daily Enterprise

To the editor:

I am very disappointed in Sen. John McCain, Sen. Kelly Ayotte and Sen. Lindsey Graham over the possible opposition to ambassador to the United Nations Susan E. Rice, threatening to hold her potential nomination as secretary of state hostage to their demand for a broad Watergate- and Iran-contra-style investigation of alleged intelligence and security lapses surrounding the attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi. Where were these senators when former Secretary of State Colin Powell was telling the UN and the world that Iran had weapons of mass deception? McCain voted in October 2002 to authorize use of force in Iraq. Talk about alleged intelligence and security lapses! Sen. McCain waited for Colin Powell's endorsement of President Barack Obama's second term, then slams Colin Powell for getting us into Iraq.

It was 1994 to 2002 or so when we spent millions of dollars investigating the Clintons and Whitewater, to find out that the president lied about having sex in the White House, to a grand jury which cost taxpayers more than $60 million.

If Sen. McCain and Sen. Graham want to go after something. there are thousands of troops on the Gaza-Israel border. We are just a few weeks away from putting the country back into a recession, maybe a depression.

You all need to get over the loss of the election, stop playing games and get to the people's work. The last two years, Congress has done nothing. All the Republicans and Democrats in Congress must do what is right for our country. That will get you re-elected, or at the very least, you'll be able to sleep at night.

Thank you,
