SARANAC LAKE - The village of Saranac Lake Healthy Infrastructure Advisory Board announced Thursday the release of the Draft Saranac Lake Bicycle and Pedestrian Trail Master Plan.
It is available online for viewing at the village offices and online at www.saranaclakeny.gov.
The plan catalogs existing bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure and existing trails. It also makes recommendations for improvements to existing infrastructure, new infrastructure improvements and programs that help promote safe and enjoyable walking and biking.
"The Saranac Lake community has tremendous trail assets and is, by its historic compact nature, very walkable," village Community Development Director Jeremy Evans said. "The purpose of this plan is to highlight our existing assets and make recommendations for connections that will link all of these assets together. We need to have a vision for seamless bicycle, pedestrian, and trail networks and start working to make it a reality."
The village will introduce the plan at a public information meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the John Black Room at the Sarana Laboratory, 89 Church St.
Representatives from different organizations involved in developing or maintaining trail networks in the community will also be on hand to highlight their work and provide brief updates on their efforts. The public is invited to attend to learn about the plan. Feedback received will be incorporated in the final draft of the plan.
Comments and questions regarding the plan will be accepted until Nov. 30 and should be directed to Evans at 518-891-4150 ext. 235 or email@example.com.
Funding for the project was provided by a $40,000 New York State Local Waterfront Revitalization Program grant. The village hired Alta Planning and Design to work with the advisory board to develop the plan.
