LAKE PLACID - A Florida man will take over as the new executive director of the Lake Placid Center for the Arts next month.

James Lemons has been hired to replace outgoing Executive Director Nadine Duhaime, who announced her retirement earlier this year. In a press release issued Monday evening, the LPCA said Lemons will start his new job in December.

"I couldn't be more excited to join both the LPCA and the Lake Placid community as a whole," Lemons said in the release. "I look forward to partnering with the board and the staff as we work to build upon the LPCA's tremendous past successes."

Lemons was hired after an "extensive search," according to the release. He is currently the general manager at the Florida Studio Theatre in Sarasota, Fla. He has a bachelor's degree in fine arts in theater from Midwestern State University, and he has also served as associate artistic director of Water Tower Theatre in Addison, Texas. There he co-founded the Out of the Loop Fringe Festival, a 10-day celebration of dance, theater, music and art which is still held each spring.

Nancy Rosenthal, president of the LPCA's Board of Directors, said Duhaime has been an "inspirational force in making the LPCA a vibrant community asset." Duhaime has been with the arts organization since 1986.

"This is a bittersweet time," Rosenthal said. "It's difficult to let Nadine go, yet exciting to bring James on board. We are confident that the LPCA will continue to flourish under new leadership."
