No arrest after assault, racist death threat

November 6, 2012
Adirondack Daily Enterprise

To the editor:

I am writing this letter in regard to an incident this past weekend. My husband, a model citizen of this town, was jumped by a group of guys and was hurt to the point of going to the hospital and getting five stitches on his face. The police came to the scene, and no arrests were made. This was a hate crime, and the group of gentlemen were not shy of using racial phrases in front of the police, and nothing was done. One of the gentlemen even crushed something and snorted it in front of the cop, and nothing. They even went as far as saying they were going to get their guns and kill all these (N-word)s, and the cops did nothing.

I am so livid that I have lived and been a part of this community for about 10 years and that, because of the color of my husband, things were not handled properly. I am so upset with the law enforcement of this town.

We were made to go on the opposite side of the street and had three cops with us as the gentlemen who did this got to stand on the other side with no law enforcers and walk up and down the sidewalk, still saying things. Not right, and they threatened our lives with the police there, and nothing was done. If the situation were reversed and the black guy would have beat the white guy and he was bleeding like my husband was, all the black guys would have been arrested. I am just upset that these guys got to do what they did - threaten our lives - and still got to go back in the bar. Very disappointed in the town I call home.
