Discounted water rates for Irene victims

AuSABLE FORKS - Homeowners impacted by last year's Tropical Storm Irene may be eligible for discounted water rates.

"Please be advised that if you have received a Town of Jay 2012 Water Billing and your home was damaged by Hurricane Irene and you are no longer receiving Town Water, you may be eligible for a discounted rate," town officials said in a press release.

To be considered for a rate reduction, homeowners must send a letter of request to P.O. Box 730, AuSable Forks, NY 12912. The letter should be addressed to the town board, attention Carol Hackel.

The request must be accompanied by verification that the water was turned off by town Department of Public Works Superintendent Chris Garrow for Irene-related purposes. This verification may be obtained by contacting Jaime Rose at the DPW, 518-946-7170.

Additional questions should be directed to the supervisor's office at 518-647-2204.
