we have participated off and on in the fresh air program, but we had to stop as others did, because of the poor job that was done screening the kids........the kids parents were greedy and looked at this as a chance to get free stuff. many other local folks felt as we did and also stopped. it's not that adirondackers are selfish with what we have, it's just that we can't rebuild a child in two weeks. the last boy we had turned or lives upside down. the kid was belligerent and cried and said he was going to walk back to ny city we finally had to talk to the coordinator and he told the kid that the bears would most likely eat him. that solved the going home problem, but the visit was a nightmare for us as well as other host families!! we hope things have improved, but we are to old now...
