To the editor:

I am writing to express my strong support for the continued funding of the Community Services Block Grant which is a vital funding source for agencies like JCEO. As a vital tool in the fight against poverty, CSBG supports community-based programs that provide critical services to low-income individuals and families — right here in our own community. These individuals are your friends, family and neighbors.

Let’s make one thing very clear, these funds are not handouts — they are lifelines that are in jeopardy under the current administration. They empower individuals to build better futures for themselves and their families.

Local Community Action Agencies such as JCEO, backed by CSBG, know our community best. They tailor solutions to meet local needs, making the funding flexible and effective. In times of crisis, like the coronavirus pandemic or economic downturns, CSBG has proven to be nimble and impactful, helping people regain stability. You will be hard pressed to find someone in our area who hasn’t either been helped by JCEO or knows someone who has been helped by them and our community cannot lose this amazing resource.

I urge our elected officials to recognize the incredible return on investment this program offers — not only in dollars but in lives improved. Supporting CSBG means supporting hope, resilience and real change where it’s needed most, right here in our community.
