To the editor:

The short-term rental moratorium is over and the application review process for new STR permits is underway by the Saranac Lake Community Development Board. All new STR applications have been approved by the board. Emphasis on ALL approved, even one with strong neighbor opposition. Neighbor opposition (1) voiced during public comment periods, (2) detailed in multiple letters to village officials, and (3) communicated via petition containing 17 signatures opposing the STR. Neighbor opposition that failed to persuade the majority of Community Development Board members to deny an STR permit. Two board members voted to deny the permit and three voted to approve it.

Ultimately our voices didn’t matter.

Our efforts to protect the character of our neighborhood and preserve residential housing in the village were disregarded, and now there will be another STR on our street.

Beware. They’re coming to your street.
