Tennis courts need rehab, not removal

To the editor:

Today, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., there will be an opportunity to discuss new plans for Baldwin Park, which is located on Lake Flower Avenue, near the memorial for veterans of the wars in Korea and Vietnam. The plans include removal of the tennis courts.

It is my hope that the village will reconsider the removal of the courts. Unfortunately, these courts have not been maintained for some time. it has been “play at your own risk” because the surface was so “uneven.” Even still, neighborhood children and tennis players were often seen on the courts.

Baldwin Park, unlike the single courts at Ampersand and Pisgah Park, has two courts.

It is advantageous to have at least two courts at one location to increase and monitor the flow of those waiting to play. It is easier to find a vacant court or soon to be vacant court at Baldwin courts because there are two courts.

In 2022, it is not just tennis players that are looking for courts; pickleball has become very popular and with some minor temporary modifications, pickleball can also be played on these courts, as can basketball, etc.

I believe that these courts are important for neighborhood families, tennis and pickleball players and should be refurbished as part of the plan to improve Baldwin park.

If you have concerns, please come to the Harrietstown Auditorium today from 5 to 6:30 p.m. to express your concerns.
