To the editor:

Thank you! While I realize most thank-yous are after the fact, I wanted to offer my appreciation to the residents, civic leaders and everyone affected by the upcoming events that I am associated with in our great region. The Lake Placid Marathon and Half along with Ironman Lake Placid are near and dear to me, and we have been working for months to make these events happen this summer.

Understanding the myriad of issues, ranging from COVID to construction to economic uncertainty, we are aware of the challenges facing our town(s) currently. Having grown up here, I feel honored to have initiated fundraisers for the local food bank, provided footwear to first responders and medical personnel, and tried to help wherever I could. I have experienced a spirit of cooperation, innovation and problem-solving that really is unique to our community. Wherever we have turned to try and figure things out, people have done their best to respond in an imaginative and helpful fashion. The knowledge, willingness to assist and mostly positive nature of people in this town continue to stagger me, and I am so grateful.

I get it. The events are a pressure on us. But I believe the inspiration provided by visitors and residents alike when they hit the start line, cross the finish line and push their limits on the race course are truly uplifting. Lake Placid has a “can do” sense about itself, and that is a big reason why we are such a popular destination. There is no greater good than helping others achieve their dreams, and I am very lucky to be a part of this. I appreciate the fact that so many local folk feel the same. We truly live in a special part of the world, and while it seems like we are a bit overloaded currently, it is great that we can share our magic with others. Thank you again. I look forward to the challenges ahead and wish all a successful summer season.
