Devlin, Galvin and Kelly for Lake Placid

To the editor:

This letter is in support of Art Devlin, Marc Galvin and Jackie Kelly, who are running for office in the village of Lake Placid.

Art, currently deputy mayor, has gained invaluable knowledge and experience certainly giving him insight into the current issues that face the village. Upcoming projects will feel the steady hand of this experience undoubtedly assisting in the eventual positive outcome from these endeavors. Art’s business experience as a motel operator will again give him valuable knowledge as to tourism trends, allowing him to strike the balance between the citizens of the village and business operators. His volunteer work at St. Agnes as well as the regional food pantry has given Art the deep understanding as to the needs of many of the people who wish to live here but need assistance. That compassion will play very well into the decisions he will have to make in the future as we weigh the many events, projects, housing and important issues at hand. I fully support him in his candidacy for mayor.

Marc is a very visible member of the Lake Placid community. He is co-owner, with his wife Sarah, of the Lake Placid Bookstore Plus. Marc and Sarah are carrying on the family tradition offering books, art supplies and sundries for all that enter. During the pandemic, the Bookstore Plus offered much-needed assistance to many who looked for ways to keep themselves actively engaged during time spent at home. As a member of the ROOST Board of Directors and past president of the Lake Placid Business Association, he has a finger on the pulse of the issues facing the village. Knowledge of the local community, tourists and fellow business owners on Main Street gives Marc invaluable insight as we face the future. Marc would be a wonderful addition to our village as trustee.

Jackie has been a visible part of the Lake Placid area for decades. Many may have known her when she worked at the Hilton. In that marketing capacity, she offered quick advice and a smiling nature as many a local and tourist felt her helping hand. Quick to pick up on a challenge, Jackie also gained valuable business knowledge by operating her own retail shop. As a member of the Joint Review Board, Jackie has had close-hand knowledge of local issues and the give-and-take it requires to get things done … and done in such a way as to ensure the longevity of our traditions. Additionally, Jackie has most recently been the administrator of the Lake Placid Conference Center, a post she will be retiring from in March. Whether assisting in the booking of a large banquet, conference, community event or even small gatherings, again, her knowledge of the village, its people and the vast amenities of our Adirondacks gives her valuable background in guiding this village into the future. I support Jackie in her pursuit as village trustee.
