How would Jesus vote?

To the editor:

To the Christians among us:

I identify as a Christian, but I also believe in science, as I don’t think that God would have given us the intelligence to make scientific discoveries and breakthroughs if He didn’t want us to use the knowledge and tools gained.

As I contemplate the last three-and-a-half years, I have observations and questions based on my belief in Christ.

These are random thoughts but still heartfelt.

¯ Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

¯ The story of the Good Samaritan — how does a Christian square that with the treatment of refugees?

¯ “Suffer the little children to come unto me.” Shouldn’t we be welcoming the children in obvious distress and need, not turning our backs on them and separating them from their loved ones?

¯ The idolizing of Donald Trump — “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” There is only one God in the Christian faith, and we are asked to turn our backs on “false idols.”

As we all face the voting booth on Nov. 3, it is time to think about what your Christian faith would have you do. Christ was a man of love, not hate. He welcomed all, no matter what tribe they belonged to.

Now is the time to ask ourselves the well-worn question: “What would JESUS do?”
