The Democratic presidential primary is not over

To the editor:

New York state holds its presidential primary election June 23. Myself and many others fought for the right to hold this primary after the state tried to cancel it in late April. I urge Democrats to vote for Bernie Sanders and his delegates so progressives have a voice at the Democratic National Convention.

New York state has 274 delegates up for election. Although Joe Biden has officially won the nomination, there is still room to represent a broad spectrum of Democrats at the convention.

Mark the oval next to Bernie Sanders, and then mark the ovals next to the names of his six pledged delegates, including our neighbor Joseph Henderson of Saranac Lake.

Bernie Sanders needs 15% of the vote to gain any delegates. He gains more delegates as his percentage of the vote goes up.

We need the input of Sanders’ delegates at the Democratic National Convention because:

¯ More Sanders delegates means fewer corporate, establishment Democrats voting on party policy and governance.

¯ Sanders’ movement is best equipped to deal with the immense social and ecological challenges facing our communities and planet.

¯ Voting for Bernie and the other down-ballot progressives sends a signal to the New York state Democratic Party that change is necessary.

Fill in your absentee ballot and vote for Bernie Sanders and his delegates by June 22. There will also be early voting and voting at the polls. Contact your county board of elections for times and places.
