Thank you, Congresswoman Stefanik

To the editor:

Thank you, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, for your steadfast loyalty to your NY-21 constituents.

Our national, state and local governments are so important during unsettling times of crisis, and you have put your constituent needs as a priority. While your Democratic colleagues in Congress have frittered away the last two years chasing the impeachment of President Donald Trump, you have stayed the course, proving to us the concern you have for protecting the safety, health and security of all our citizens.

Health care advocacy — COVID-19:

¯ Voted in favor of passage of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act. Elise’s office put together a new website with specific information on what the stimulus package does for families, health care workers, seniors, small businesses, veterans, students and rural communities.

¯ Requested funding for New York hospitals.

¯ Requested the Department of Health and Human Services reconsider its upcoming decision to allocate hospital funding to hospitals based on Medicare payment data. Despite the disproportionate scale of the COVID-19 crisis in New York, HHA has chosen not to give New York priority.

¯ Elise and two colleagues introduced the COVID-19 Graduate Relief Act to provide necessary loan relief by allowing 2020 graduates to defer their student loans for up to three years.

¯ Sent a bipartisan letter to House leadership requesting more support for community health centers in the phase 4 COVID-19 legislative relief package.

I encourage everyone to vote for Elise to continue her outstanding representation. Elise has the breadth of experience and the strength of character to continue to be our leader. Tedra Cobb seems to be an empty suit with very little in the way of experience for how she would do better. Thank you, Elise, for working for the North Country.
