Food pantry thanks

To the editor:

The Saranac Lake Interfaith Food Pantry continues to benefit from the generosity of our community. We are very grateful for all the support that we have been given.

The many organizations, churches, groups and schools continue to amaze us with creative ways to collect food and raise funds for the SLIFP. We say thank you!

When local drives done by groups such as the Boy Scouts, postal carriers, schools and the Tops Market collection overflow our space, the local Elks Lodge #1508 generously offers storage space. Again, we say thank you!

High Peaks Church and Go Fish!, along with St. Bernard’s Church and the First Presbyterian Church, are very generous providing food, money and volunteers. Members of the First Presbyterian Church staff a table outside the pantry on Saturday mornings providing fresh produce in season and handmade winter wear in the colder months. The Turkey Trot in Saranac Lake on Thanksgiving Day, sponsored by Bitters & Bones, collects generous donations from our community and beyond. Thank you!

For those we have not mentioned, know that you are twice thanked! There are many individuals in the community who donate on a regular basis. This allows us to order food from the Regional Food Bank or purchase it locally. We have more that 25 volunteers who help week after week, and year after year, to provide this service to the community. Thank you!

The food pantry is located at 30 Bloomingdale Ave. in Saranac Lake (across the street from Stewart’s Shops). It is open from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. Food is also available on an emergency basis. Current emergency numbers are posted in the window of the pantry. Students in need of food during school vacations and in the summer may pick up a “Kid Pack” on any Saturday.

You are all a blessing, and a treasured gift. Thank you!

Anne Cooney, Carmen Ordonez and all the Volunteers at the Saranac Lake Interfaith Food Pantry
